Nurse, Cardiovascular Technologist and English Tutor
I didn't started out as a teacher really. I am actually a nurse. I graduated 2007 with a Nursing degree. I passed the Board Exam on the same year and I am still working as nurse until now.
I'm a Nurse, why do I teach?
Nursing profession involves a lot of teaching skills. I have to teach patients on how to prevent illnesses, best health practices and practical remedies for simple health issues. Doctors orders have to be relayed to them in such a way that they will understand, and so Nurse's teaching skills comes along the way.
What made me teach English?
I was invited by a friend before to apply as a part-time Online English Teacher . At first I thought, it's going to be hard. I have no experience in language teaching, how much more 'online language teaching", and I was doubtful if it will be effective, since it's done online. I gave it a try anyway. One of the personnel from the company trained me on how to teach online. They also suggested practices and strategies which I can employ in my online teaching. And the most wonderful thing about it is, I can teach from the comforts of my home, during my free time. Who would not want to earn extra in his/her own free time?
How do I feel about teaching online now?
What else can I say but, simply-fulfilling. I feel happy and contented when I see my students progress (it's the same feeling I get when I see my patients get well). They don't only advance in reading, listening or speaking skills, but their self-confidence have improved a lot . I am proud that through teaching the English Language, I am able to bring out the best in them.
